Bridge over Llobregat River. Barcelona, Spain

The structure is a twin viaduct around 900 m long without intermediate expansion joints. Typical spans are 80 m, with a main span of 105 m over the river.

The deck is designed as a steel and concrete composite box girder. Weathering steel is chosen for its maintenance-free advantages.

Erection of the steel box girder is done span by span with cranes. Once the steel box is completed, precast slabs are placed on top to serve as collaborating formwork for the cast-in-place concrete top slab.
